Three kinds of chronograph

Quartz chronographs such as the LIGE 9866, CURREN 8291, CURREN 8314 and the blue-dial POEDAGAR are the simplest. One battery runs the time and the stopwatch, usually for one to three years. The ADDIESDIVE AD2095 uses the VK64 meca-quartz calibre. Quartz keeps the time and a mechanical module runs the stopwatch, so the hand snaps back to zero. The Sugess S387 is fully mechanical, a hand-wound Seagull ST1901 column-wheel chronograph in 38 or 40 mm that you wind each morning. For more wind-up watches, see automatic and mechanical watches.

Size and water resistance

Check thickness as well as diameter, since these run from 11.5 to 13 mm thick. The CADISEN C7068 is a quartz chronograph in a 40 mm titanium case with a sapphire crystal, and the AD2095 is 38 mm. Both are rated 10 bar, enough for swimming, and the Sugess S387 is 5 bar. The four quartz pieces from LIGE, CURREN and POEDAGAR are rated 3 bar, so take them off before a shower. Our water resistance guide explains each rating.
